"Father, into your hands I commend my spirit." Luke 23:46 In the 5 stages of death – denial, compromise, anger, depression, and acceptance, these words of our Lord are the words we might utter after all our struggles on earth, denials, compromises, anger and depression from all sicknesses, problems, sin, and desolation.  We humbly present to the Lord who we really are.  No more false pretenses; no more hiding.  We now utter, "Father, into your hands i commend my spirit." What does it mean when we pray these words?  And when is the best time to say them? First, know that Jesus is also equipped with a human spirit that gives life to his body.  We also possess the same spirit integrated in our bodies.  We need to offer our spirits to the Lord, having been created in his image and likeness, so that our every existence in this world would be a holy existence springing from a harmonious relationship between the body and the soul. Sinabi niya ito sa rurok ng kanyang paghihirap, sa panahong pati ang salaring nasa kanyang kaliwa'y tinutuya siya, "iligtas mo ang iyong sarili pati na kami." Sa krus, nakita pa rin ni Hesus ang dalisay na puso ng kanyang kapwa, "Hindi ka ba nahihiya sa iyong sinabi.  tayo ay nagkasala, ngunit wala siyang kasalanan." Father, forgive them As Jesus lay hanging on the cross, the first words he uttered are words of forgiveness instead of hatred and vengeance, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." There are two realities to this: first, Jesus' willingness to forgive not a few, but all of us.  But the second one is worth reflecting: "for they know not what we do." It pays to realize that we do not know what we are doing in this world.  If we know what we are doing, we could not have acted the way we are doing today, considering the coldness of our actions and dedication to God while we pour out all efforts making things work in our companies where we are paid.  We may not know it, but because we know not what we do, we consequently put Jesus on the cross. We know not what we do when we think that life is simply eating and drinking, raising a family, doing a bit of good, and dying. We know now what we are doing when we think religion is for kids.
