Remembering a history
On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the blessing of the housing project of the St. Joseph the Worker Foundation by his holiness Pope Paul VI
Brothers and sisters:
Let us not forget: of all housing projects only two are blessed by the pope; one of them is this housing project we now come to know as the St. Joseph the Worker foundation. This is a truly rare opportunity where his holiness, Pope Paul VI gave his message, not only to the residents but also to the rest of the world. It is important to rekindle the past and to relish the very words he said when he blessed this institution, among them are the following:
1. "The aim of our journey to Asia is spiritual order: to proclaim the infinite riches of Christ - the grace this seed of the Word should grow and multiply in our hearts and in the lives of men in the course of pilgrimage here on earth and share it with the poor their hopes and joys." Brothers and sisters, your existence in this vicinity is a living reminder of the concretization of God's word planted in your hearts. Do not lose this gift.
2. "The situation of increasing population by immigrating to Metropolitan areas is so grave that it seems to us not to be enough to expect everything from the competence of the public authorities; a lack of housing is the cause of the degradation of family life and of the evil temptation to violence." - the Holy Father and the entire Church is concerned with the quality of life, dignity, and spirituality of every family. Maintain and sustain the holiness of every family.
3. The faith response to such situation: "to give proof to imagination, social solidarity and generosity; to thank those who have made the execution of this project possible; and that their example may be followed for the greater well-being of all." These all show the liveliness and dynamism of faith, catchy and salvific, results in unity, solidarity and sharing.
Brothers and sisters, do not forget this past. Let this be our starting point and start journeying again toward the future. Let us nourish this gift that we have received from the Lord. As we do not deserve this gift, what we carry in us is the grave responsibility to care for this place for our children and our children's children. The basic ecclesial communities will sustain your programs of charity, education, and deepening of faith.
